These are tough times!
When haven’t times been tough?
I’m serious! When have times been easy?
Remember hearing the old saying, “When Going Gets Tough; The Tough Get Going? Maybe...just maybe...our modern society has become a batch of cupcakes...a garden of pansies...a bunch of wusses.
I live in an area where a little more than a hundred years ago, pioneers traveling along a number of famous trails, including the Oregon Trail and the California Trail were lucky if they made it this far. They were lucky if they had previous wagon marks and ruts to follow in. They were lucky if they had enough money to pay a ferry operator to haul their meager belongings across the wide and often treacherous Snake River. They were lucky if they hadn’t been attacked by Indians...or hadn’t died from a number of diseases...or hadn’t starved to death.
Many of the pioneers who crossed the distance of what we locals now call the Magic Valley of Southern Idaho had buried family members along their trek westward trying to discover the undiscovered. Were their times easy?
NO!
Not by a long shot!
Those folks who decided to stop here in the Magic Valley saw a future that many likely thought futile or dumb or ridiculous. Yet, with little more than their bare hands, a plow, maybe a horse or a mule...they literally carved out a Magic Valley from sagebrush and lava rock. They fought off the heat of the high desert, the cold of Idaho winters, and harsh winds that can fill your eyes and lungs full of fine sand so fast that you can’t even imagine.
With NO bulldozers...NO motorized machines of any kind, the pioneers that settled the Magic Valley of Southern Idaho not only hacked out a living...they eventually undertook one of the most incredible engineering tasks of all times, rivally the Erie Canal and the Panama Canal...they built dams to hold back the water and carved elaborate water lifts and canal systems that still carry water to fertile farm fields across hundreds of miles of high desert.
Today, along with many other similar success stories across this great nation, the Magic Valley helps feed the world with some of the best quality, best tasting foods ever grown.
The pioneers didn’t lement their plight. They didn’t cry and whimper and gripe and complain and whine. They sucked it up and they did what they had to do to make things work.
I would venture that those folks who sacrificed so much fighting for our Independence and risking everything, including their very lives, to make a better world for themselves and their posterity, would be fairly pissed off at what whimpering, driveling, babies this generation has become. Waaaaaa! Waaaaa!
So.....
INSTEAD OF GRIPE AND MOAN AND BLAME EVERYTHING THAT’S GOING WRONG ON EVERYONE ELSE...
...DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Tap into the energy of self-reliance and personal responsibility.
If life is throwing lemons at you, catch as many as you can, instead of trying to dodge them...and
...Make Lemonade.
Do like the pioneers who took sagebrush, rattlesnakes, lava rock, blowing sand, and sticker weeds...and transformed it all into a lush, fertile, Magic Valley.
Now’s the time to fight back with the true grit...guts and glory...and make your own posterity proud of you.
Instead of your great grandkids looking back at a lame generation of bawl babies and quitters...DO something to carve out your own Magic Valley from the troubles and tribulations that life seems to like to throw out as hurdles.
